Habitat: They can be found in temperate parts of the world, and a
re adapted to soils of medium to heavy texture. 
The 
Monterey Pine is adapted to cope with intense fires.

Special notes: 
Its cones remain closed until opened by the heat of a forest fire. The abundant seeds are then discharged to regenerate on the burnt  ground. The cones may also burst open in heat.
