Habitat: Open bush, forests, often also found along rivers. It is relatively frost tolerant and requires a moderate amount of water. It prefers warm to cooler areas.
Nativity: Natural distribution stretches from the Eastern Cape in South Africa to tropical East Africa and Madagascar. The plant has also grows in the USA. It is said to have naturalized in Hawaii.
Special notes: The name Hibiscus is derived from the Greek word for marshmallow. Used for paper making, food coloring, lowering blood pressure, and for other medicinal uses, this flower has a wide range of uses.
